Pop Culture “Self-Care” Is A Lie… Here’s Why.

Why you should treat yourself like someone you’re responsible for helping, instead.

I had developed a bad habit of putting others above myself. That’s not something I recommend doing if you have mental health issues.

As the years went by, I started to suffer worse and worse whenever anyone slighted me. Whenever they lie, hurt, or blatantly use me.

My Depression developed a deeper angst. I found myself picking fights with my boyfriend even though he wasn’t the one who provoked me.

I thought this could be cured with a little “me time”, as per those social media trends. A tub of chocolate ice-cream. A bubble bath. Maybe even a few hours of Stardew Valley.

Over and over and over I put myself out there only to get hurt over and over again. Those ‘self-care’ routines weren’t helping.

Enough was enough.

Turns out that I needed help in so many aspects of my life.

So, let’s journey to Dr. Peterson’s 12 Rules For Life, and let’s talk about the second rule…
